      <image:title>Bernadette McCormack - Bernadette McCormack</image:title>
<image:caption>Duncan, BC Born in Alberta, Canada in 1964 to Spanish/Filipino immigrants, Bernadette McCormack has led a culturally diverse life. At nine years of age her family moved to Holland for three years where they had the opportunity to travel extensively throughout Europe. This began a love for travel in Bernadette that has led her to many places in the world, as well as to experience teaching opportunities in Mexico and Santo Domingo, two strong influences in Bernadette's artistic life. While traveling and teaching in Mexico in 1992, the experience of the elements, the culture and the landscape moved Bernadette to begin her painting journey and by the time she returned to Alberta a year later, Bernadette's approach to her artwork had been transformed and she was well on her way to developing the maturity that is evident in her style today. Once again, while teaching in Santo Domingo in 2001, Bernadette found herself inspired by the Caribbean Islands and the power of the elements. Haitian folk art was prevalent on the island and through the influence of native craft, the essence of primitivism surfaces in her work today. Bernadette returned to Alberta with her family in 2002 and settled in Calgary. She joined the Night of Artists in 2003 and was involved in NOA art shows in Calgary, Edmonton, and Ottawa. In 2005, she wrote, illustrated, and published her first children's book titled In the Land of Sweet Dreams (Hummingbird Studio 2005). Bernadette currently resides in Duncan, B.C. on Vancouver Island with her husband and children She is a member of the Cowichan Valley Arts Council and is an honorary member of the Alberta based NOA Group. She shows her work regularly at the Daffodil Gallery in Edmonton, Alberta. Bernadette's work has been chosen to participate in a variety of projects over the years. She was involved in The BC Lions Club "Eagles in the City" fundraising project in 2008/09, as well as Sarasota, Florida's "Embracing Our Differences" in 2009, The Royal Canadian Mint commissioned her to submit design ideas for collector's coins in 2012, and her work was chosen by The Calgary Stampede's "Artist Ranch Project" in 2013 and the "Western Art Auction" in 2014. Bernadette's work is recognized by her whimsical style, bold colours, and clean black lines. Her paintings are uplifting and vibrant.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Duncan, BC "Currently, my painting focus is on acrylics and mixed media. I continually challenge myself to experiment with different techniques in order to discover new and unexpected ways to further express myself. In particular, I have always been fascinated by trees, especially evergreens in winter and spring. I am inspired by their subtle movement, feel their strong independent presence, and often sense an intimacy while in their midst. I seek to convey this connection through my art. Through sketching, taking photos, and painting, I strive to express the joy, peace and spirit I feel when I am surrounded by nature." Born and educated in Europe, Astrid Notte has always been interested in art, especially drawing. She immigrated to Vancouver Island with her family as a teenager and now lives in Duncan, in the beautiful Cowichan Valley. Astrid has a Masters in Art Education and taught for many years. Having lived in the rugged beauty of Haida Gwaii and Vancouver Island, she has been inspired by the variety of their coastal landscapes, diverse terrain and often-unique flora and fauna. As an avid skier and outdoors woman, wild places have seeped into her very essence and continually translate into her painting subjects. She expresses this passion through watercolour, pastel and acrylic media. To expand her skills and knowledge of art, Astrid has taken many workshops and courses from more experienced artists, including Mike Svob and David Langevin, whose landscape and forest work she particularly admires. They, among other teachers, have been valued mentors to her artistic development. Her work is further influenced by Emily Carr, Lauren Harris, and other Canadian icons of the Group of Seven. Astrid has exhibited extensively locally, nationally and internationally- too long to list, but of note and personal affinity, she's exhibited in the international skiing community of Whistler, British Columbia and in Nantes, France. Her work is in private collections across Canada, the United States and France. <image:caption>Cobble Hill, BC I am a Canadian artist, living on the West Coast for over 30 years. I am a graduate of Sheridan College in Oakville Ontario, where I studied Graphic Design, Illustration and Painting. A former member of the Graphic Designers of Canada, Certified Graphic Designer (CGD). My Vancouver Island studio is in Cobble Hill. As an illustrator and Graphic Artist I have developed a deep appreciation of the importance of design and colour and the many ways it shapes our lives. While the elements of design and colour are essential to any work of art, the overriding goal of a painter is to interpret and express the essential energy or the "soul" of the chosen subject. Soul is the one element that, when incorporated into any work, creates a life of its own. I have centred my creative vision on the natural beauty that surrounds us on Vancouver Island. My artistic endeavour is to incorporate the majesty of this landscape into my painting, striving to interpret the language of nature.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Duncan, BC “I have loved art and creating for as long as I remember. My parents' house is still adorned with both wall and door murals that can attest to this. I have a B.A. in Art/Secondary Education and have taught in the USA, Ukraine and Canada. I have also painted murals in each of these countries! After five years in the Ukraine (and three kids) we decided to move back to Canada, our country of origin. We moved to Duncan, B.C. - a small town. I have always wanted to live on "The Island." This was where my grandmother lived and I remember my mom telling me about her visits and stories about dolphins, whales, purple starfish, moss covered trees, and endless beachcombing. To me, "The Island" seemed magical. I have done a lot of traveling in my live and Vancouver Island is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been to - and I get to LIVE here! I am continuously inspired by the beauty I see around me. When I go exploring, I always bring my camera. The photos I take are my research. I print out the photos that I find inspiring and I work from them in my studio at home. I love to play with colour, shape, and movement. I aspire that my end result will not just be a depiction of a location, but this it will also contain the emotion of what it feels like to be in that place. I also enjoy painting art for children. My little bird character that I have is always getting himself into interesting situations! I love to sketch out ideas for my next bird paintings and see what he's up to next. I have also been creating name paintings for over eleven years - ever since my first niece was born and I wanted to make a unique gift for her.”</image:caption>

<image:caption>Sooke, BC My beginning in photography was during high school, many years ago, where I took photos and developed them for the school paper and yearbook. For fun, I would go to airshows and photograph planes in flight. When I was finished school, I decided on a career in the Canadian Armed Forces, where I had the opportunity to travel to many interesting places all around the world, but was rarely able to practice photography. As my military career was winding down, I rediscovered my love for photography and haven't looked back. I primarily shoot landscape, nature and travel images, although, I also really enjoy night photography (light painting and astro photography). I spend most of my time on Vancouver Island, where I like to explore the vast wilderness, but I always bring my camera(s) to capture new locations, whenever I get the chance to travel. Recently, I have started to dabble in abstract painting as well. I have been involved in many local projects, including the Sooke Photo Club and currently I am the Vice President of the Sooke Arts Council.</image:caption>
