Ian Finlayson

I am a Canadian artist, living on the West Coast for over 30 years. I am a graduate of Sheridan College in Oakville Ontario, where I studied Graphic Design, Illustration and Painting. A former member of the Graphic Designers of Canada, Certified Graphic Designer (CGD).
My Vancouver Island studio is in Cobble Hill. As an illustrator and Graphic Artist I have developed a deep appreciation of the importance of design and colour and the many ways it shapes our lives. While the elements of design and colour are essential to any work of art, the overriding goal of a painter is to interpret and express the essential energy or the "soul" of the chosen subject. Soul is the one element that, when incorporated into any work, creates a life of its own.
I have centred my creative vision on the natural beauty that surrounds us on Vancouver Island. My artistic endeavour is to incorporate the majesty of this landscape into my painting, striving to interpret the language of nature.
